Surrealistic portrait oil painting of Robert Johnson

Love in vain (2008) (sold)

A commissionary piece for someone who loves the blues. Robert Johnson with his guitar walking from the departing train. “The blue light was my baby, the red light was my mind”. Robert Johnson with his guitar walking from the departing train. “The blue light was my baby, the red light was my mind”. On the cigarette ad I wrote: “from Scrath” offering two meanings with regard to the blues man himself and the great tempter.

The ad by the way was a Miss Blanche poster but I found out later the brand is dutch and never could have been seen in Mississippi in the 1930s.

A dear (white!) friend of mine served as model. The hat is my granddad’s and the guitar is a relic of a non-successful musical era gone by.
