A new roundism drawing in an evergrowing series. After two graphite pencil drawings in the Sans Titre series, the last being ‘Sans Titre – 21-04-18’, it was time again. I never get bored with the series and this time I combined straightness with round shapes. That surely is something I find particularly difficult because it easily can lead to incoherences. I think this one worked nicely though. Next to that there is a surrealist element in it as well. The result is a nice kind of crossover and I also got a nice atmospheric depth as well. That was dead easy with the pleasant backlighting.
This drawing started out with the framing of a circle, being the model’s right breast. Next I found a nice circular movement from the left up her head and downwards again. It girds the model like a kind of sea shell. The big circle is reflected by smaller ones like in the wrist and the shoulder. Next to this I like the blanket folds that I drew in a repetitive, almost representative style, turning them into waves.
Look at the drawing an you will see the ball in the middle with me and the spiral that surrounds it. It may have been inspired by my love for the golden ratio but it was not intented deliberately. The pose in the ball is the same in a previous drawing ‘A Metallurgical Approach to Bettie Page – 12-03-17’. That is because I always draw at my desk and I have this chinese metal balls at hand. It somehow serves as a portal to another world within a world created (drawing) by another world (me). Maybe I like it because of the endlessness it induces. Perhaps it evokes the same in the spectator?
