Roundism – 22-03-17

Another Nude

Part of the roundism series. After my graphite pencil drawing ‘The Hague – 19-03-17’ I felt like doing another nude again. Why? I found a great reference picture online somewhere. I don’t know its origin but it must have popped up on some kind of art forum, I believe. I took the liberty of using it, also because I basically reshaped and modeled it after my own fancy.

Tonal Rhythym

In this one I abstracted the forms to the max. That was quite easy because the body looked almost chiseled. I liked throwing in some curved cross sections in the crotch, belly and left breast. The left shouder serves as some kind of reflection of the round nipple. It is all tonal rhythym in this drawing that I drew in one shot. Sometimes that happens, not too often though. By the way, I think this one is abstracted similar to my colored pencil drawing ‘Roundism – 06-03-17’. In fact I like these balls popping up in my works. Perhaps I will do more in the next future. Even Bettie has a ball in the last drawing I made of her. I am also in it, having a ball.

Miró

The floating ball in the upper left corner and the styled cross-like structures makes me think of Miró a bit. I think I might have had him in mind whilst drawing. Perhaps the styled body induced that line of thinking. His work is not the first thing that comes to mind when I wake up in the morning though. Intriguing is another word perhaps. Glad that he kept on thinking of figuration and never went totally abstract (non figurative that is). That is another approach I share with the old master.
