Cubistic colored pencil drawing of Natalie Wood

Sans titre – 06-10-16

One of the ‘sans titre’ series I made. This one is American actress and moviestar Natalie Wood put in the style of cubism / roundism.

I had my new set of Koh-I-Noor colored leads only for a month and decided to employ them. It was a very long time ago I used colored pencils anyway and this one set the mark for more to come.

I decided to keep a realistic feel to Natalie’s face while drawing some circular patterns around her head in my roundism style. I personally like this one because of its black, white and red rhythyms.

Influenced by The Blaue Reiter expressionists like Franz Marc and August Macke I came to realize there has to be balance between saturated and unsaturated colors, whereas I used saturated colors in abundancy in the past and that is something I am more careful about.

White and black being the unsaturated pigments and red the saturated one, play a wonderful saturational waltz in this one.
