A classic approach to the nude theme. I made it specially for Brugman Art where i teach. It hung there for 7 years until its sale to a dutch collector. On express demand of Brugman I made this one as an example of how elementary your materials can be (Conté sticks on paper) and what you can achieve with them. No fancy color palette, only the play of light and dark across a women’s body.
Just as a previous pastel drawing Reclining nude 01 (2013) this one is executed in the same fashion. Based on impressionism the key secret is to work with broken structures rather than to draw or hatch following the contour delineations. The latter would be tempting to do and actually would give you a quick result but that is just sheer economical drawing. Hatched strokes offer me structure, rhythym and therefor diction.
