Reclining nude – 28-01-15

Live Model Session

A reclining nude pastel drawing that came from a live drawing session with my favorite model. Since they cost so much for a private session I take pictures so I have the poses I need for multiple works, making it profitable but in this case I got the material I needed in time and there was plenty of time left for a live drawing. She laid down and was relaxed after working hard. That was the perfect atmosphere to get her relaxed features on paper.

Somehow Expressionistic

Compared to a previous pastel drawing ‘Reclining Nude – 10-11-14’ of the same model this one is a bit expressionistic. I dared to use more broken structures and more sorts of color. Especially the greens I like best in this pastel. Compared to the previous aforementioned pastel I think this one contains more vibrancy or vividness, a thing that I strived for. It makes the pastel contrast the reclined position.

Blue Lining

To honor modernists like Leo Gestel and so many others I experimented with a blue lining around the model’s body. This type of contour delineation you find in many paintings of hundred years ago but never employed it in one of my paintings or drawings. Actually I am quite surprized by the result and I rather like it.
