Roundism – 08-10-17

Abstracting to the Max

After my last graphite pencil drawing ‘Roundism – 28-09-17’ I still was in my bedside nude mood. However, I wanted to open up bodily forms again a bit further like I did in Roundism – 26-05-17. I feel I did not yet exploit all possibilities abstracting the female form to the max, without loosing recognition though. Surely I will stay a figurative artist until the end. Definitively I feel it as a task bestowed upon me to see how far I can go. Perhaps people will feel attracted to sexy geometrics rather than a nude they associate my attempts in graphite with?

Geometrics

Very quickly I saw I could start to play with triangles, circles and rectangles forming the model posture. Her slanted position also creates a rudimentary sort of big triangle. The challenge was not to follow the contour delineations of her forms but to break those open. The result is a kind of distorted look that seems to incorporate the model’s features into the surrounding sheets. Eyes not well trained might not spot the model at first glance but that only adds to the flavor. An artist should throw some sand in one’s eyes and never make things easy. Nothing more dull than live up to one’s expectations.

Singularity

Next to this the laws of singularity apply just very nicely. For those who want to know more, you can read my art statement to ‘Roundism – Singularity – 01-06-17’. As a result diagonals verticals and horizontals are in perfect harmony together with a maximum tonal bandwith spread throughout the paper in a diagonal shape. I think more or less geometric shaps could only have delivered me another drawing or a worser one.
