Roundism – 17-09-18

Same Model, Same Couch

This colored pencil drawing ‘Roundism – 17-09-18’ follows directly after my last one, called ‘Julia – 11-09-18’. Same model and same couch, different in style though. That is how it goes. The previous one was done in a mild cubist style, almost realistic. Lots of hatched lines and I liked it that much I didn’t want to repeat it in a consecutive drawing. Perhaps out of fear to become a one-trick pony. Variation is the spice of life and my roundism style needs a whole lot more digging.

The Fourth One

Actually, this is the fourth drawing of model Julia Gómez Alivés in which I combined my roundism with colors. I washed them a little bit with a Sakura water brush that works like a fountain pen. However, I am not a great watercolorist. This technique is pretty new I must confess. I remember I did some in my teens. Soon enough I got the hang of it. These watercolor pencils allowed me to take a position between a colored pencil drawing and a watercolour painting. Perhaps I do more in the future. This having said, water colour is still a mystery and a void in my knowledge of creating art.

Colors Used

Finally some remarks on colors used. This was an experiment in using stronger colours. Compared to the last one I could make more of a clearer statement. That’s due to the level of abstraction I think. When you let go of realism it is all about planary divisions and contrasting colors can balance eachother out. It is a fragile balance though because one can become too dominant over others. I think I encapsulated the pungeant red enough without lots of green around it.
