Roundism – 26-03-19

Checkered Patterns

A roundism drawing in color.  The sheets on my duvet on which my model lay show nice checkered patterns. My mddel’s body contrasted them quite nicely and I decided to exploit this to the max. Next to this I also wanted to combine graphite pencil with colored pencil and see if I could harmonize both materials. That is when I found out I did not need to employ many different colours, only varieties of red, pinks, purples and violets. The result is some kind of roundism, impressionism and realism.

Furthermore I kept the figure as much as ‘open’ in order to create some airiness. A bonified way to do so is by letting some parts of the positive form run into the negative space around it. The effect is that the two are tied together, albeit the fact the sheets show different colors (pink and purples) than the body (red).

Fun with Crayon

From time to time it is fun to play around with colored pencils, even though my last one – Mira (2019) – was only some time ago. In my view colors are deceptive though. They easily can lead to inflation. I like the relations colors show but dosed for sure.
