Roundism – 28-09-17

My Regular Model

Back to monochromous roundism again. After a colored pencil drawing ‘Roundism -26-09-17’, a sketch merely, I thought I do another one of my regular model. Four years have passed since I hired her for the first time. That was for a live drawing session at Brugman Art. It was love at first sight from an artistic point of view. Two great pastels done in one session are proof of this: Reclining Nude 1 and 2. It is nice to see how my art grew throughout the years and how my artistic regard grew with it. In retrospective I can see I was searching for a certain style to call my own. That brought me from each and every style and back, only to become roundism in the end. Surely the style will evolve and I am the first to admit of being curious in what direction. Time will tell.

Wavy Feel

When I looked at the hand streched out on the bed I immedately knew what to do. It looked like some kind of styled wave or even multiple ones. Probably that has got something to do with her Indian background. People from the East often have these features. They can overstretch their fingers in the most peculiar ways. Very elegantly I must confess and inspiring most of all. Hence the wavy forms. Besides that I liked doing the body in an a very smooth finish with a slow gradual tonal threshold from ultra dark to very light. The overall body shape I kept very abstract. In some key positions like in the popliteal, croth, waist and breasts I crancked up the tonality a bit. Such was needed to give a bit of recognition. However, the focus was on the waves in the front.
