Una in aliam – 01-09-19

cubist nude surrealist oil painting

This oil painting is based on my drawing ‘Nude – 17-06-15’. An artist often sees one thing in another. Salvador Dali saw a rhinoceros in Vermeer’s Lacemaker. I saw a horse in a women’s thigh.

Veere – 04-04-19

cubistic cityscape graphite pencil drawing

Last weekend I was walking through Veere at Zeeland, Netherlands, a little pittoresque town. I returned to my car when I saw the sign ‘city wall tour’ and I decided to take that one and then, when I climbed onto them, I saw this great composition that reminded me of Caravaggio’s ‘Descent from the cross’, a perfect staircase composition – triangles within one big triangle.

Mira (2019) (sold)

Surrealistic portrait graphite and colored pencil drawing

Mira (2019) (sold) A commission for a drawing of a young woman that I already painted 9 years ago. Then a teenager, now a young woman and an excellent way to study the same face grown up. Special request was it to use the same color combination as in my drawing ‘sans titre – 06-10-16’ […]

Realistic portrait oil painting

I decided to put the stress on the face and […]

Sans titre – 11-10-18 (sold)

Surrealistic Frida Kahlo nude graphite pencil drawing

I am not sure what I thought about her, except for her strong personality. I sometimes liked her paintings and then I didn’t. What I have in common with her is that we both are autodidacts and that we like(d) to go our own way in life. Somehow I always come across her once in a while and that is why I decided to draw her. I saw a lovely – rare – nude photograph and thought I’d include her in my sans titre / roundism series.

Sans titre – 27-09-18

Cubistic portrait colored pencil drawing of Tallulah Bankhead

In this drawing I tried to capture the edgy character of U.S. actress Talullah Bankhead and still bring softness to her face.
