My model and I were looking for intesting poses and on the bedside there it was: a beautiful one with some interesting lighting. Sometimes extreme light like in this particular case can offer a new insight in compositionary possibilities.
The only way to render such a scene I could think of was in my hatched strokes style because three quarters of the body showed blurry shapes. Therefor there are no harsh contour delineations, not even in the kneecaps. This way the body looks ‘organic’ and totally blend in with the surrounding darkness.
In fact this lighting closely resembles the one in my drawing ‘Isis 25-01-19’ in which I employed the same kind of extreme razor lighting, except for the hatched strokes. Perhaps I went further than Johannes Vermeer did in his clairobscur paintings?
