Another drawing by me of Bettie Page returning to surrealism again. After scrutinizing her features and estimating what her character would have been like I came to an inescapable conclusion. Eggs, rabbits, dogs and snakes could be derived from her and were essential for her expression. So I immediately put myself to work and try to capture what was in my mind’s eye. One could call it pareidolia but I refute that. Her breasts, thigh, arm and lower leg are totally absent.
This drawing soon was followed by it’s successor oil painting ‘The Revelation of Bettie Page (2018)’. The description that goes with it unreveals the meaning of all used segments. I often feel like explaining a good joke but it’s all for the sake of SEO. I do concur with Gustav Klimt who refused offering explanations of his work. He was famous of course and could afford such a point of view. Me, selling less for much lower prices, can only display openness. This way, you can look at this drawing because you found and read the story online. Who is able to find great art, read embedded symbols and value it without the necessity of consuming lenghty descriptions?
