Just as ‘Cubistic nude – 04 (2013)‘ this one is featured in a daily dutch television soap although scaled down too small I thought. I am not liberty to say which soap because the contract explicitey forbids me to reveal the name of the soap that is on national telly for more than 30 years now. It was featured for almost 6 years, even though I never got any response. Maybe people who watch the show are not into art.
I liked doing some strong stuff through a complementary mix purple / yellow. The purples and pinks encapsulate the yellow plains entirely. This way a hugh focus is created on the upper body that stretches out upwards. Through the clairobscur (chiaroscuro) tonal setting I associate this one with art deco. Of course the reference picture came from that era.
This pastel is a predecessor of the Birth of New Cubism series I started a year later. I remember my desire to abstract body forms was urgent, since I have been sketching and painting only realistic and impressionistic models until then. Nevertheless, I wanted a style to call my own desperately and through the aforementioned series I begot the Roundism style eventually.
