Estates around the Corner

Estate ‘Oosterbeek’ is a small park just around the corner where I sometimes wander about. Situated adjacent to estate ‘Clingendael’ it is also worth the trip. The fun part of living in The Hague are these estates that funtion as green safe havens amidst urban buildings. When the time is right (sun, cast shadows, leafs) you can find me there. Sunlight behind and through treelines  are my favorites, next to water reflections.

 At the Spot

As stated before I was struck by the light through the trees and the atmospheric depth. I saw treescapes in the far distance appear to be more blue than green. In the front I rendered the dominant tree trunk extra dark, serving as a hefty repoussoir. The color scheme of the sandy path reflected in the water I directly borrowed from Paul Signac’s Comblat-Le-Château, La Vallée. For those who know their color theory: Purple and yellow offer intense sunlit impressions.

Earlier Drawing

A year earlier I made a pastel ‘Estate ‘Oosterbeek’ – 15-07-14’ in which I focused on the reflection of one single tree only. I sold them both to a collector from Wales.
