Initiatrix – 03-12-18

Ancient Carved

The third art work called ‘Initiatrix’ in my new series on Egypt I started with my graphite pencil drawing ‘An Archeological Memory of Bettie Page – 13-11-18’. Once again I experimented with my personal style ‘roundism’ in combination with realism and surrealism. Nex to this I used a previous theme the ‘holy vortex’ and my theory on singularities. The new element is the ancient carved block patina, giving it a layered and also surrealistic look. Vortices as a result of the application of the golden ratio already were recognized and employed by the old Egyptians.

Prestudy for Textures

This drawing precedes my oil painting The Restoration of Bettie Page – 01-04-20 and in retrospective I can say it served as a prestudy for make textures look older, like stones for that matter. It was jolly good fun to create such kind of weathered appearances. The reason is that it looks very impressive and it is nothing more than the display of my skills from a tonal point of view. To lift the tip of the veil a bit, it is all about depicting dark grooves and highlights connected by abrupt or gradual midtone sections.
