I was heading for Julia Filament’s exhibition on Katendrecht when I decided to take a detour through Kethel, a small encapsulated village in the north of Schiedam, near Rotterdam. I liked the cozy atmosphere threatened by modern suburbs around it and decided to do the church and the cows in front of it. Last weekend I was on the brink of completing the drawing when the Sri Lanka incident happened. I decided to incorporate some kind of freedom in the drawing, something terrorists – it seems – like to take away from us.
