Leidschendam – 01-09-18 (sold)

Special One

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Leidschendam – 01-09-18 (Sold) is a special one. Not because of the urban landscape itself but the vista itself. This particular view on the Sluisjes and the Peperbus in the back is only accessible with the right connections. Personally I happen to have these. In fact, it’s one of my students who has this incredible house in the centre with a roof terrace. She is blessed indeed. Smack in the middle of Leidschendam! Lots of restaurants and bars around you and the scenery is endearing. If you are in the neighborhood I surely recomend you pay it a visit.

Beautiful Cast Shadows

One time she held an exhibition in her home during the Open Atelier route. There were this blasting sun and beautiful cast shadows. Not every artist like these heavy light and dark tonal distributions but I do. By now you must know that I am a disciple of The Light. To date I haven’t been inspired by misty landscapes. I leave these to Celtic Myst type of artists.

I also saw the opportunity to exploit some great diagonals. I also made a surrealistic version of ‘De Peperbus’ (‘the pepper canister’) – the village church at Leidschendam. I kept the rest in my own roundism style. Lucky me, she bought it! By the way, the windmill in the back is a mighty big one. Its obstacle light sometimes keeps me awake at night. A year later I was having dinner at the spot and made a quick drawing. It’s  but them at street level. Leidschendam is not always on my mind because it’s quite a tour to get there. I made another drawing though, also in 2019.
