Nude – 03-01-16 (sold)

Nude Becomes Roundism

Part of the roundism series and in the beginning I did not name them as such. It is only after some time I saw structure in my development and decided to call them ‘Roundism’. Two years before this drawing I started to do graphite pencil nudes cubistically, like ‘Cubistic nude – 28-03-14’. It was all hatched strokes back then and in 2015 I invented the roundism style. Roundism – 28-04-15 (sold) was the first one I did in a smooth style like this one.

A Fest to Draw

This piece was a feast to draw. With breasts like this I simply couldn’t avoid roundism. The reference picture showed a great division in plains of light and dark. The light ones look like voluptuous round lumps of flesh, scattered throughout the canvas. What I basically did is to exaggerate the light and dark areas some more and through this process they almost tear the body apart. Thus the positive form becomes scattered and seems to flow into the negative space. Nevertheless, people still recognize the light and through the process of association they glue the pieces together again. I think therefor this piece to be a milestone in my development of Roundism. It is in the hands of an English collector now.
