This graphite pencil drawing ‘Nude – 08-04-16’ is something different. Once in a while I want to do something else like this one. Perhaps a bit similar to the realism employed in the previous one ‘Nude – 06-04-16’. However, I had a different outcome in mind. You know, I wanted to create something slick, greasy and shiny. Just let the bling-bling all hang out. Therefor my regular model comes in handy. Her skin complexion is a bit shiny. That given fact I wanted to exaggerate a bit so it became almost oily. Well, as a matter of fact perhaps I am also searching for something new. I don’t know. I realized I haven’t handled this type exexution often. It’s more a sort of guilty pleasure to finally admit to it.
However, there was also third reason to change the execution of style. Throughout the years I became a fan of Tamara de Lempicka’s work. Specifically I like the smashing tonal distribution in her depictions of the female body. Her conal interpretations of limbs are simply exquisite. The upper part of the right arm in my drawing is in honor of her. Tamara also placed skylines and cityscapes in the back of her oils. They almost serve as sheer decorative patterns, framing main themes. So I gazed outside of my flat and saw my city The Hague in the distance. Hence, a bit of a suggestion. Not too much, only to have straight contour delineations contrast voluptuous roundish forms. The result is totally not resembling hers I must admit. In deviation of her art deco style I sticked to a more realist lighting.
