Finally a Drawing Again

Finally, a new drawing and it is a new Solarized Roundism. The last solarized one I did was ‘Risque – 31-03-22’. Graphite pencil drawings do not come popping up weekly anymore since I put my mind to oil painting back in February. Occasionally one is fininished as a result of some spare time I have, waiting for my students at Brugman Art. So is this one. It is a sort of side project, next to my main ‘Geesje Kwak’ project in progress, due for next July. Strange how these things work. I missed painting all of a sudden and so I put drawing in the fridge for a while. Since I started to paint on a daily basis I miss the invention of stuff through drawing though. Makes me realize I even did not went outside for a minute to sketch this year.

Solarisation as the Solution

As to this drawing I didn’t have many ideas left. My mind is fixated on executing some of my best drawing in oil. Next to this, I feel my Risque series is finished and so is my Geesje series. The work in progress in oil is my final piece and an elaboration of ‘Geesje Kwak – 08-10-22’. Not much at hand and so I started browsing on the internet. I found a smashing photo by Laure Albin Guillot and decided to have this one as an inspirational source for my new invention. I liked the pose but the reference picture simply was too dark for my taste. Solarisation came naturally because I then could alter tonal values to my liking. This way, I could regain more of a bodily recognizability. I liked the pose though. Next came a roundistic styling, especially in the arm. No further nifty tricks needed.
