Roundism – 19-10-19

Return to the Style

Certainly time to return to my roundism style it was. Something in the position of this one inspired me show the flow her hips and leg suggest. Therefor I extrapolated some of forms outside her bodyscape into roundish shapes and kept the foot realistic. This way the viewer will be tricked into believing the human forms whilst consuming the abstract extrapolations at the same time.

Even though this graphite pencil drawing contains a lot of round shapes, the overall look of the angled position of her legs counterbalances these round sub shapes. The reason for this is that I like to apply contrasts between forms next to, for example, light and darkness. Moreover the curve that starts at the calf is inverted in the knee of the other leg so a nice ogee (or line of beauty) is running off paper.

Next One

After the completion of this one I found it to have become a bit ‘sweetish’ for my taste in spit of the aforedescribed triangle. There is nothing irritating in art to depict beautiful things in crancked-up aesthetic ways. That is why the next drawing ‘Roundism – 26-10-19’ I made much more angular.
