Model sketching time again. My mind was occupied with many other projects but live model sketching always has priority. Whereas skecthing often is called the primary process, live model sketching I consider to be primus inter pares.
This oil painting is based on my drawing ‘Nude – 17-06-15’. An artist often sees one thing in another. Salvador Dali saw a rhinoceros in Vermeer’s Lacemaker. I saw a horse in a women’s thigh.
Another drawing of a clairobscur forest lane at Park Sonnenburgh in Voorburg, Netherlands, conveniently lingering about around the corner of where I work.
In the dead of summer means I am in the midst of the outdoor sketching season. Although I did not complete this one on the spot the invention of the basic composition and planal distribution were done at Katendrecht, Rotterdam. The vista is directed at Hotel New York that nowadays looks almost encapsulated by skycrapers. I was there long ago but the cityscape almost was inrecognizable. The watertaxi was done in my studio because they keep on moving all the time. Nevertheless a new typical sight in swinging Rotterdam. Although, the drawing seems rather detailed, I kept it quite impressionistical.
After teaching today I went to Park Sonnenburgh in Voorburg, Netherlands around the corner.
Today I was out on a trip to Beek-Ubbergen with my parents. We returned to the place where I sketched two previous drawings. This time I drew the whole thing at the very spot, opposite to the Duivelsberg (Mount Devil).

A quick sketch in pastel and charcoal after I completed my graphite pencil drawing ‘Wijk bij Duurstede – 20-05-19’ this evening.
Plasmolen – 16-05-19 At Mothersday I went to the hills at Plasmolen, outside Nijmegen. Hard to understand for foreigners but the Netherlands do have them and that is the landscape […]
Rotterdam – 14-05-19 At Katendrecht in Rotterdam I had a clear view on the old harbour buildings and I saw the potential of horizontals, some verticals and a diagonal […]
