Solarized Roundism – 07-03-22

cubist nude oil painting

A new oil painting based on my graphite pencil drawing ‘Solarized Geometry -26-11 21’. After the previous one ‘Rusalka, Free Floating in Russian Waters – 28-02-22’ I was in for something new. In fact, I always am and that mindset prevents me from repeating the same old same.

Risque – 22-02-22

cubist nude oil painting

This Risque oil looks like a wild Liberace. Or could it be that I was inspired by the song ‘Digital Love’? Often I get these almost synaesthetic feelings whilst listening to music.

Claudia – 06-12-21

cubist portrait graphite pencil drawing

Claudia is one of my talented students and she is about to turn 60 years old. Unfortunately I cannot give it to her personally because a planned surprise party is thwarted by Corona. Some luck however. The drawing will be included in a sort of liber amoricum and at first opportunity next year the party’s on for real. Anyway, I hope she likes it.

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Solarized Roundism – 26-11-21’ concerns a pose I had my model strike a couple of sessions ago. Strangely it takes me back a year ago when I experimented with solarization during the first lockdown in the Netherlands.

At the Binckhorst I met a model who posed nude for me and a student of mine. The live model sketch was in pastel and in fact I got the taste to do some more.

Roundism – 23-12-20 (sold)

cubist nude graphite pencil drawing promotion

Just on the brink of Christmas I thought I should make a roundism drawing looking rather risqué. It was a strange and hefty year for us all, I think.

On the Beach – 11-12-20

cubistic nude graphite pencil drawing

Years ago I saved a vintage picture of a nude on the beach. Origin unknown and my best guess would be from the 1930s or 1940s. The picture was rather grainy and but it showed a great composition of a female body in slanted position.

Hommage to the Entombment of Christ by Caravaggio – 05-12-20

cubistic nude graphite pencil drawing

In my classes I often use ‘The Entombment of Christ’ by Caravaggio to demonstrate how artists normally distribute space. Next to this, in my eyes a great artist is one who lets the composition reflect the idea the main theme has to to convey.
