The artist and his model – 22-02-19 (Sold)

A Bond Sui Generis

This graphite pencil drawing ‘The Artist and His Model – 22-02-19’ celebrates the holy bond between the artist and his model. Together we create magic! Every month she sits for me in my studio back home for quite some time now. Perhaps time to explain how such a relationship works in practice. There are, of course, several kinds of relationships: romantic, business, family and friends. The bond between artist and model is another kind, completely ‘sui generis’. It is typed by a bond of trust and tuning to eachtother needs. As an artist I give her a platform to be grand and she expects me to capture her essence and beauty. During these sessions gravity evaporates into thin air. You could say it combines all the aspects that typically define other relationships. However, it also remains a business deal, so no hanky-panky going on. An artist needs to work too.

Do Something Crazy

This having said, we had this idea of doing something crazy for a change. Crazy times anyway since this Me Too stuff is kicking in. Surely, a lot of abuses throughout the years and there is no excuse for those. Personally, I even can’t imagine how men can abuse women in the first place. Never needed too for I was raised by my parents with love and respect. Provocation is my middle name though and so does my model bears this name too. She came with the idea to do something provocational this time. A sort of an addition to ‘Me too’. After some experiments we came with this pose where she sits on my lap.

Crazy Aftermath

What came next was crazy indeed or should I say, totally expected. People accused me of me tooing myself. The fun part is, there is nothing going on. I am clothed, she doesn’t show full frontal nudity or genital expressions. The only invasive element is my thumb pressing into her flesh. Deliberately of course and people took that bait all too eagerly. For people who are more quiet in their heads there is something more to enjoy. Please do note the magic oil floating around because gravity was cancelled like I told it would. Naturally, I sold it quickly to a French collector. A month later I made another one but this time as two archeological artefacts sitting next to eachother. Naturally, no one objected this time. I wonder why that is.
