Roundism – 20-02-18

More Abstraction

This roundism oil painting is based of a previouw graphite pencil drawing ‘Roundism – 11-01-18’ and a pastel ‘Roundism – 18-01-18’. As such, it forms the culmination of all drawing endeavors. So I decided to abstract the female figure even more that its predecessors. Consequently I reduced the oily reflections on her body to cubist plains, creating rhythym and diction of light and dark tones. Another thing was the search for implementation of basic forms (circles, rectangulars and triangles). To top it off I sought for a suiting balance in colour saturation and unsaturation.

Variation in Repetition, Repetition in Variation

For me it is all about the search for a balance in variation and repetition according to Johannes Itten’s studies of forms. I strecht his theories a little bit further. I state that there is variation in repetition and repetition in variation. Every variation on repetition can, if quantified, lead to its own repetition. So the two elements start dancing around eachother like dervishes. I discovered this counts for tonal rhythyms, color relations, saturational balances and compository elements. In life and far beyond this principle is needed to spawn something in the first place.
