Bettie Page – 28-08-17

Bettie Page Once Again

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Bettie Page – 28-08-17’ is a surrealist one. Finally I got to depict this lovely pin-up once more. That is because I became master of my time again. After the completion of a commision ‘Conquering the Stelvio – 24-08-17 (sold)’ I had my hands free again. Commissions are fun but nothing beats the liberty of creating your own work. Bettie’s body is so slender!. It enables me to exploit my style of roundism every time without pondering overa new way of rendering.

Openess

In this drawing I tried to keep forms open as much as possible. In this respect it resembles my endeavours in my graphite pencil drawing ‘Roundism – Bettie Page – 31-01-15’. Nonetheless, this one is also different from previous ones. For example, now the planes show more gradients. The pieve has turned out to become considerably abstract except for the face because I needed the recognition. Or is it? Unwantedly it also became a bit surrealism as well. Not the first time though. She was treated surrealistically by me before.

Swan

It all began with extending or extrapolating lines beyond the forms. Strangely it created whole new forms, even animals! Moreover, because of her looking so slender exploiting my style of roundism became easy. You could say in this one I took it to the max. An example is that I discovered a swan in her lap. Never mind the piglet though. Can you see it? In the next drawing of herr I put this kind of surrealism aside and focused on geometrics only once more. Nothing beats the freedom of being able to shift from one style to another.
