With her slender body Bettie Page always has been a great model to put my project ’roundism’ on wheels. There’s not a single curve in her body that does not makes me go cubistic. During this period I was fascinated by open forms serving as interconnections between positive and negative spaces.
What attracted me in this drawing was the body position that strechted out as a twisted-curve from the lower right part of the drawing up to its left corner. In order to compensate for all round shapes I made some cut-offs with dark toned sharp triangled edges that serve as visual cornerstones for a spectator to step on whilst interpretating this drawing.
The next Bettie drawing after this was Bettie Page -24-02-17 that serves as a prestudy for The Revelation of Bettie Page 2018 a year later. Even though I have painted and sketched her many times, i will never be bored by her lovely features. Perhaps one day I will let her reenter my works.
