Roundism – 25-04-17

Highly Abstracted

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Roundism – 25-04-17’ could be one of the most abstracted varieties in my Roundism series. This time I wanted to keep a big part of the body open. See if I could indicate and style only a portion of the shades. However, the previous one ‘Roundism after Breitner’s photograph – 22-04-17 (Sold)’ is pretty miminalistic too. Somehow I must be on the right path for I sold it quickly to an American art collector. To date I’m not unsatisfied with the way this series is evolving. Not sure if I want to walk down the path of more abstraction though.

Anecdotal

Let me explain this last thought. Personally I think I can sketch and paint a bit. My biggest quality is being associative and anecdotal. Students in my art classes can confirm this. Abstracting stuff on paper and linen is a bit of a drag for me. Once started I really can delve deep down into an artwork and always see the potential for more. Hence, a main narration gets girded by side stories quite easily. Therefor minimalism isn’t my natural cup of tea. As such, that’s not very exciting or bad. Of course there’s is plenty of great minimal art in museums and galleries and I often enjoy it.

My Fear

My ever fear is simply saying, expressing or showing to little and I see so many doing that already. In this respect they mowed the grass away from my feet. In short, I’m quite sure I will do more in the near future. Perhaps my main concern is not have my audience not loose track of recognizability of the female form. This one is on the brink maybe?
