My graphite pencil drawing Wag the Dog – 26-09-21 was waiting on the shelf to be put into oil. After my last oil Slava Ukraini – 18-04-22 I thought I’d use another surrealist theme and why not?
The West has recently become familiar with the phrase ‘Slava Ukraini’. Obviously everyone who is a democrat and values freedom above all can support the meaning of this slogan.
A new oil painting based on my graphite pencil drawing ‘Solarized Geometry -26-11 21’. After the previous one ‘Rusalka, Free Floating in Russian Waters – 28-02-22’ I was in for something new. In fact, I always am and that mindset prevents me from repeating the same old same.
This oil painting I would like to call ‘Rusalka’ in honor of the latest developments in Ukraine. It is an elaboration of my pastel drawing ‘Free Floating Blue Wave Nude – 10-02-21’.
This Risque oil looks like a wild Liberace. Or could it be that I was inspired by the song ‘Digital Love’? Often I get these almost synaesthetic feelings whilst listening to music.
After careful considering I chose for a rendering with hatched strokes like I am used to in doing pastels and many a drawing, even though this is the first time in oil.
Today I have been busy all day working on my Frida Kahlo project. Fine tuning facial features among others.
In these Corona times I returned to my studio at Brugman Art where I started to teach to students (one at a time) again and working on my Frida Kahlo project
On track with my Frida Kahlo project, based on my drawing ‘Sans titre – 11-10-18’. Getting the resemblance right. Covid-19 has entered the scene as well. Lots of work to do.
Not finished yet. Some details to do but my father completed the framing job on my new project ‘The Restoration of Bettie Page (2020)’ (oil on wood panel 85 x 120 cm).
