Impressionistic treescape pastel drawing

A pastel of a treescape at Royal estate ‘De Horsten’ at Wassenaar, Netherlands. This one I did last Saturday for a group of pastel students and limited myself to appromixately 2 hours, synchronizing to the time span of the pastel workshop, in order for them to relate to a quick build-up without throwing too much details like leaves and branches.

When I was walking across the Morspoort Bridge at Leiden I saw this incredible clouds party over Mill ‘De Put’ at the river Rijn towards the Weddesteeg across the water, where Rembrandt was born.

Yesterday’s session at Rotterdam offered Gabriëlle, the model of that Sunday afternoon. She had great hip bones and was slender, thus showing great angles and triangles with her body.

A commissioned piece done in an impressionistic style with lots of clairobscur. I had to come up with a solution for depicting his pale skin hues and still rendering them too unsaturated.

The sheik of Araby – 2017 -10-15

A surreal graphite drawing where a reclining nude female figure forms the contours of a desert landscape, with actor Rudolph Valentino depicted as the sheik on the right and a camel caravan moving below her body.

This graphite pencil drawing ‘The Sheik of Araby – 15-10-17’ is in honor of moviestar Rudolph Valentino. Originally a jazz song, now an artwork.
