Nude – 25-05-16

Realistic but Not Quite

Part of the roundism series. Certainly it is an almost realistic nude but still to be called styled in a cubistic way. In particular I like her loins evaporating at the side of the body in a vortex way. Part of the Tamara de Lempicka kind of styled body parts I derived from my previous graphite pencil drawing ‘Bettie Page – 20-05-16’. The evaporation shows that I move forward on the path of combining styles like realism, impressionism, cubism and surrealism.

Tonal Rhythym

I did not mention Tamara’s name for nothing. Her style I like for years now. Key element in my eyes is her impeccable feel for tonal rhythyms. It offers the viewer a visual hold to interpret the depiction. Hence, my attempts to emulate this principle of tonal rhythym and variation in my art works. In this particular case I put the stress on the roundness of the female body. Next to this I even drew some round forms in the negative space to support the different round areas in the positive form. The result is a drawing full of swing.
