Me painting a new one today

In my ever quest for roundism I was attracted to the female body’s position showing diagonals and triangles.

Based on two previous artworks: a pastel called ‘Into the light – 15-06-17’ (impressionistic, surrealsitic) and a graphite pencil drawing ‘Roundism – 04-07-17’. I liked both works and took the colour scheme of the pastel drawing in reds and greens but also used the roundism style of the pencil drawing and combine them.

Recently I saw a picture of a model passing by posing a great triangular shape.

Based on a prestudy in pastel (Model – 01-12-18) I made this painting in oil. My objective was to stay in line with the fauvist colour kind of strokes (in case of the pastel they were pretty much ‘broken’ and ‘open’ strokes / patches) but also to get to a more abstract feel by means of rendering the model slighty cubistic.

Roundism – 30-01-18

In line with my previous graphite pencil drawing ‘Roundism – 11-01-18’ I rendered the model figure with such highlighted tones as if the skin was lubed.

Leiden – 23-01-18

When I was walking across the Morspoort Bridge at Leiden I saw this incredible clouds party over Mill ‘De Put’ at the river Rijn towards the Weddesteeg across the water, where Rembrandt was born.

Today, sketching live models (couple) – monthly session at Rotterdam

Roundism – 11-01-18 (sold)

Of late I use models lubed with a lot of oil, just like this art deco-style photograph, in order to obtain great highlights, lovely midtones and smashing darker tones, all divided by abrupt threashold values.

Based on my previous graphite drawing ‘Roundism – 11-01-18’ I made this one in pastel, allowing me to study the female body covered in oil.
