Surrealistic portrait oil painting

Mira (2010) (sold)

Commissioned

A commissionary piece for the parents of a little girl, called ‘Mira’. I asked for some liberty because the girl wanted to have flowers in the painting, so to avoid being corny I put some surrealistic elements in it. Since she is born and raised near Huis Hatert, I decided to process it in. Hence, a sort of floral wreath in the form of the building.

Pixelating

Back in 2009 and 2010 I was intrigued by pointillism and the art of pixelating a depiction. In 2009 I made an oil painting Reims (2009) from which I borrowed the pixelating. I had this idea to gradually let the pixels become smaller up to the face where it becomes analogue. The same I did with the tree at the left. The face itself I built up in a traditional way, starting with a verdaccio.
