This graphite pencil drawing ‘Neo Deco – 03-08-23’ is a return to the female form.

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Neo Deco – 03-08-23’ is a return to the female form.

This oil painting ‘Neo Deo – 10-08-23’ follows a day later after my drawing ‘Nina – 09-08-23’. Two projects almost finished at the same time.

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Louise Brooks – 07-07-23’ is another homage to the famous flapper girl, celebrity and moviestar. To whom it may concerns: to me she remains an unexhaustable source of inspiration.

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Den Haag – Nieuwe Kerk – 28-05-23’ takes me back to my present residence.

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Louise Brooks – 06-12-22’ is the latest in the eponymous series.

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Roundism – 28-10-22’ follows my cubist interpretation of Louise Brooks’ facial features. The latter was done in colored pencil. However, I had a good reason to do this one in matt graphite only.

This colored pencil drawing ‘Louise Brooks – 21-10-22’ is something I wanted to do for a long time. Naturally the reason was to see how colored pencil would react to Ingres paper.

Enter my graphite pencil drawing ‘Louise Brooks – 11-10-22’. After an interlude of two drawings of my regular model and a nude it was time for something different.

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Art Deco Nude – 02-10-22’ follows after the (tentative) completion of my Darja Collins series.

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Art Deco Nude – 05-09-22’ follows up ‘The fabulous burki lippe and wassenaar trio – 02-09-22’.

Graphite Pencil drawing ‘Art Deco Nude 29-08-22’ is the next one in line after ‘Sienna – 25-08-22’.

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Sienna – 25-08-22’ is an impressionist experiment on Hahnemühle Ingres paper. Using soft tonal gradients.

Another graphite pencil drawing ‘Art Deco Nude – 23-08-22’, inspired by again a smashing picture by Walter Bird.

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Roundism – 17-08-22’ follows its angular version of two days ago. Surely Walter Bird’s reference photograph was good enough to draw two versions from it.

After the last Roundism drawing I immediately wanted to do another one. It became ‘Art Deco Nude – 15-08-22’.

This oil painting ‘Art Deco Nude – 14-08-22’ is based on my graphite pencil drawing ‘Art Deco Nude – 05-08-22’. I liked that one and saw the potential for an oil.

Art Deco Nude – 11 -08-22 is my third graphite pencil drawing done with my Faber-Castell Pitt Graphite Matt pencils. A couple of days after the second but I had a busy schedule of meetings, uploading and painting of course.

This Art Deco Nude as theme is not something new, the materials are. The last decade I have been using mostly Bristol paper for my graphite pencil drawings.

Surely it is time to pay homage to Eugène Durieu, especially his photograph of a seated female nude. This time I found it was time to return to straight cubist planes after the latest anaglyphical experiment.

This oil painting I would like to call ‘Rusalka’ in honor of the latest developments in Ukraine. It is an elaboration of my pastel drawing ‘Free Floating Blue Wave Nude – 10-02-21’.

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Family – 25-01-22 (sold)’ is a commissioned piece, just as the last commission ‘Opa – 14-04-21 (sold)’.

This colored pencil drawing depicts the Herengracht in Leiden, Netherlands. The canal with its beautiful houses for the rich stands out in its grandeur compared to other minor ones.

Following my last drawing of her this one of Geesje kwak was next in line. I must confess I get the hang of it or should I admit to an obsession? Well, maybe not that hefty but her appearance keeps intriguing me

Today I returned to roundism again. Did you ever have the feeling that you had to burn all bridges? Something you could spend the rest of your life doing felt familiar and safe but nevertheless… Last year I did my last roundism drawing. After the completion I instinctively thought that was one final mark and then stop. Well, now I am not so sure anymore.

Last Saturday I went to the Heineken Music Hall near the Johan Cruijff ArenA for my second vaccination shot. On the other side of the A2 there is Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, a village to the south of Amsterdam.

Sometimes a model just can’t let go. After my last drawing Geesje Kwak still lingered in my mind. I also happened to find more pictures of her, taken by Breitner.

There is this girl that I know for a long time: Geesje Kwak. Throughout the decades I visited many museums. Once in a while I also come across Breitner’s famous oil paintings in the ‘Girl in Kimono series’.

Last Saturday I came across the outer edge of the Waalsdorpervlakte. By chance I was walking down a small footpath next to the International Criminal Court at The Hague, Nethelands. Suddenly there it was, the motif I was anxiously searching for that day.

Sometimes a portrait commission comes along. This time it was the commissioneer’s opa (grandfather). Usually I am reluctant in accepting such assignments but this one was fun to do. The lighting was beautiful: full of midtones so I could study the skin folds thoroughly.

Marlot is close to where I live. On my morning walks I can choose between the Haagse Bos or Estate ‘Oosterbeek’ farther away. Up north there Park Marlot I have sketched a couple of times. There is also the residential area with villas and big semidetached mansions. On my way back I saw this incredible lane with a sun bursting through the dense tree branches.
