Marlot is close to where I live. On my morning walks I can choose between the Haagse Bos or Estate ‘Oosterbeek’ farther away. Up north there Park Marlot I have sketched a couple of times. There is also the residential area with villas and big semidetached mansions. On my way back I saw this incredible lane with a sun bursting through the dense tree branches.

Estate ‘Oosterbeek’ – 31-03-21

On my walks I came across Estate ‘Oosterbeek’ again. I was in the mood to do another landscape after my last one of Buitengoed Leeuwenbergh. After all, Spring has arrived and South Holland is covered in sunlight. Let’s hope the sun will bring relief in this cursed pandemic.

This pastel drawing ‘Golden Roundism – 03-03-21’ is based on a graphite pencil drawing ‘Roundism – 03-01-16 (sold)’. After the previous pastel ‘Golden Purple – 25-02-21’ I thought it would be fun to pull a really old one out of the drawer.

Just on the brink of Christmas I thought I should make a roundism drawing looking rather risqué. It was a strange and hefty year for us all, I think.

And it so happens my niece Lilian turned out to be a great photographer. Lo and behold, artistry runs deep in the veins of our family and I asked her to use a beautiful photo she took of a treeline in Puiflijk, near to where she lives.

In 2018 I was visiting the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam with my parents to see the exhibition of art works by Jan Henderikse, a representative of the Dutch Zero group.
