31st March 2018

Here’s a build-up of a pastel drawing I prepared for my students later that afternoon, joining me in a workshop on doing landscapes in pastel at Brugman Art, Voorburg, Netherlands.
Roundism – 18-01-18

Based on my previous graphite drawing ‘Roundism – 11-01-18’ I made this one in pastel, allowing me to study the female body covered in oil.
Roundism – 06-12-17

I was intrigued by the compact forms of the model’s body and especially by the curve of her tibia tot he instep of her foot.
Model – 01-12-17

Some months ago I started attending some drawing sessions at Rotterdam where I did short positions again.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Roundism – 29-11-17)

Based on a earlier roundism graphite pencil drawing I made this pastel adding the realm of colours. I wanted the woman appear in a kind of midsummernight’s dream with lots of yellow and blues, girded with some purples and pinks.
Roundism – 24-11-17 (sold)

A new graphite pencil drawing in the roundism series in which I experimented with deformations of body shapes with the purpose of keeping the forms as ‘open’ as possible, so all forms can breathe, flowing from one into another.
Model session @ Rotterdam – 19-11-17 (sold)

Yesterday’s session at Rotterdam offered Gabriëlle, the model of that Sunday afternoon. She had great hip bones and was slender, thus showing great angles and triangles with her body.
Model session 2 @ Rotterdam – 19-11-17

Short positions at live model sketching took me back to reinvent my way rendering human bodies and together with my new found Pastelmat by Clairefontaine I was able to experiment with new ways.
Nieuwe Veenmolen – 18-11-17

Nieuwe Veenmolen – 18-11-17
Wouter – 08-11-17 (sold)

A commissioned piece done in an impressionistic style with lots of clairobscur. I had to come up with a solution for depicting his pale skin hues and still rendering them too unsaturated.
