Oil Paintings
The return of Bettie Page – 12-08-15
This is the first roundism oil painting I made of American pin-up and celebrity Bettie Page, after a first drawing I made in the beginning of 2015.
Bettie Page is one person I always admired. Not only she is sexy as hell but also because she deared to flirt with her sexuality in an era throughout the world many were prunes (and still are today).
Hakata Bay – 29-06-15 (sold)
A commissioned piece representing the battle of Bun’ei near Hakata Bay, where Samurai try to stop the Mongols in the year 1274.
Roundism – 02-12-14
The result of so many prestudies in graphite and pastels resulted in the culmination of all efforts into this oil painting. The dimension of colour gives it an extra swirl.
Louise Brooks – 26-10-14
This is the oil version of the prestudy in pastel of Louise Brooks, silent movies actress and flapper girl from the 1920s – 1930s.
Cubistic sitting nude (2014)
vious sketchwork (the birth of new cubism). Rendering cubism in oil gives new ways of depicting the body. This one still is ‘cubism light’ and also can be considered as expres
Marilyn Monroe (2014)
Moviestar Marilyn Monroe in oil and cubism. I chosed a fairly unknown / at least not iconic picture of her.
Abstract Fruits (2013)
A search for capturing a still life in my kind of cubism. For this one I looked closely to Cézanne.
Autumn tree at Laren (2013) (sold)
Museum at Laren, Noord-Holland, Netherlands, I walk by this tree. In spring and in fall it shows magnificent colours. It is not always that I paint impressionistically but this tree was worth doing it.
The Ooij polder (2013)
A pointillistic view on The Ooij Polder, an area between the German border and Nijmegen, the place where I grew up.
Henriëtte (2013) (sold)
An oil painting of Henriëtte Sibie, who sits for me quite frequently, most of the times at Studio Brugman.
Cubistic nude 02 (2013)
A study after movement and cubism. I was inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s ‘nu descendant l’escalier’. I like women swinging their hips.
Cubistic nude 01 (2013) (sold)
One of the early paintings in a distint different cubist style I was searching for. It was my first sales on Saatchiart and my type of cubism has developed into a variety I call ’roundism’.
Ilna (2012) (sold)
A commissionary piece for my dear colleague Humphrey Brugman, with some surrealistic elements added.
Chinese nude (2012) (sold)
I love those old colonial post cards of exotic nudes. This one is based on such a card but of course with the addition of extreme colours.
Cubistic woman (2011)
A mixture between expressionism, pointillism and cubism, done by strong complementary constrasts.
Loving the alien (2011) (sold)
Named after the same song by David Bowie. I made this piece as a protest against all organized religion.
Peggy (2011)
A live model that I painted at Studio Brugman, Voorburg, Netherlands. The purporse was to meet realism from an expressionistic starting point.
Mira (2010) (sold)
A commissionary piece for the parents of a little girl. I asked for some liberty because the girl wanted to have flowers in the painting, so to avoid being corny I put some surrealistic elements in it.
Cubistic woman (2010)
Probably the first cubistic painting I made. This one rather looks like stained glass than being cubistic, I think.
Wet dream (2009) (sold)
In 2009 my bathroom was finished and I was taking a bath. Due to lavender oil I dreamt away and saw a woman floating towards me.
papaya (2008) (sold)
A still life in which I tried to combine cubism and realism in such respect that the cubistic papaya would be looking realistic as well.
Elysian fields (2008)
A big surrealistic oil painting. Surrealism – with Salvador Dali as exceptional example – always has drawn my attention.
Love in vain (2008) (sold)
A commissionary piece for someone who loves the blues. Robert Johnson with his guitar walking from the departing train.
Maris (2008) (sold)
A painting I made for my exhibition in 2008 at museum ‘Marishuis’ at Heumen, Gelderland, Nederland.
Flames (2007)
A surreastic oil painting with an ashtray and flowers as cigars. I liked painting the texture of fire so I had to come up with a dark negative space to sett off the light sufficiently.
Grassy Knoll 1 (2007)
The original oil painting on which I based a much larger version. I was fantasizing what would have happened in the days before the assassination of president John F. Kennedy at the very spot (Dealy Plaza).
Grassy knoll 2 (2007) (sold)
A commissionary piece for someone you wanted a bigger version of the one I already painted.
Old and young pomegranate (2007) (sold)
One of the many oil paintings but few still lifes I made throughout the years.
Lust (2007) (sold)
Not a real surrealistic painting but almost ‘alternative realism’. A woman reading the newspapers. One used condom on the floor, half a bottle of wine with two empty glasses. One cup of coffee on bed.
